Are you affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and have you any past or present connection with the Armed Forces?
Mutual Support is one of the MS Society's support groups and as the name implies, Mutual Support exists to offer support to serving, retired and dependant members of all three Services and their reserves. The Group is run entirely by volunteers from within our membership but it has the support of the MS Society with its vast network of information, support and contacts.
The first days and weeks after diagnosis can be mentally and physically devastating and that is where Mutual Support can offer the greatest support. Our members are treading, or have trodden, the path that the newly diagnosed must follow and their combined experience and advice can offer much comfort, support and practical help. MS is also unpredictable and our Support Team is on hand ( on the phone and e mail) to offer help and advice on a wide variety of issues including medical retirement, war pensions, benefits, housing and access to health and social services.
After the traumatic early days of diagnosis Mutual Support continues to provide crucial support for its members long into the future. We publish a free monthly newsletter and hold residential meetings at least twice a year where members can get together to share mutual experiences and hear up to date information from guest speakers on a variety of issues.
If you have left the services within the last 7 years and have a diagnosis of MS there is the possibility that you may be eligible for a War Pension, we are there to help you (at no cost) to claim that pension if you are eligible. It's yours – Take it!
